Relative to the ongoing discussions about a new elementary school in Bristol, Virginia, I would like to suggest that the Bristol School Board and City Council consider as a site the property at the end of the Virginia High School complex at the intersection of West Valley Drive and Long Crescent Drive across from State Street Methodist Church. With some architectural ingenuity, I believe a facility could be designed to accommodate the combined enrollment of Washington-Lee and Highland View elementary schools. The land is owned by the city. It would not have to be purchased from another party, and the savings could be applied to the cost of construction. The water and sewer infrastructure is there. It is in a central location, which would be a benefit for transportation of students.
That’s the way I see it.
