Dorothy Mae Head Brown, age 88, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2019, at The Waters of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late John L. Head and Zollie M. Morrell, born to them on April 25, 1931, in Kingsport, Tennessee. Dorothy was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Bristol, Virginia, where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years and received a Papal Blessing for her service and dedication. Dorothy was full of life and had a deep faith in her beliefs. She was an Avid Chicago Bulls fan. Before retiring, she worked at the Unisys Corporation, formerly Sperry, where she was the first woman to obtain a fork lift driver's license, which she was very proud of. Dorothy also served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Bluff City. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years, Charles Randolph Brown. She is survived by her loving family, her daughters, Pamela Mele and husband, Roberto "Danny" Mele, of Acworth, Georgia, Mary C. Bowman and husband, James Bowman, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Alice M. Fernandez and husband, Daniel Fernandez, of Alpharetta, Georgia; her granddaughter, Kimberly Janzen and husband, Zach Janzen, of Greenville, South Carolina; grandsons, Roberto Mele Jr. and wife, Randi Mele, of Aurora, Illinois, and Nicholas Fernandez of Columbia, Maryland; and great-grandchildren, Miles and Redding Mele of Aurora, Illinois and Montgomery Janzen of Greenville, South Carolina. She is also survived by a host of many relatives and friends, left behind to cherish her memory. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Johnson City, Tennessee, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Friday after 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11 a.m. A visitation and luncheon will follow the service. A graveside service for Dorothy, will also be conducted on Friday, June 14, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Roberto "Danny" Mele, Robert Mele, Daniel Fernandez, Nicholas Fernandez, James Bowman, and Zach Janzen serving as pallbearers. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Waters of Johnson City and Amedisys Hospice for their support and care of Dorothy, and also to all of her friends who visited during her time at The Waters. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, contributions may be made to St. Anne's Catholic Church, 350 Euclid Ave, Bristol, VA 24201, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2211 E.
