MARION, Va. – A 12-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in Marion earlier this evening and was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

Marion Police Department Lt. Rusty Hamm said the girl was hit in the 600 block of South Main Street near Greenway Avenue and dispatch received the call at 5:16 p.m. He didn't release her name and the extent of her injuries isn't known, he said. 

Hamm said the police department is working through witness statements and video to find out what happened. The driver, who wasn’t identified, hasn’t been charged.
