BRISTOL, Va. -- One person is dead following a crash last week on Interstate 81 in Washington County, Virginia, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. on March 23rd on Interstate 81 northbound near Old Airport Road, according to Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for Virginia State Police.
A 2014 Dodge Ram was traveling north when it failed to reduce its speed in an active work zone, according to Geller. The Dodge Ram rear-ended a 2015 Mazda MZ5. The impact of the crash caused the Mazda to then strike a Chevrolet Silverado.
The driver of the Mazada, a 24-year-old woman from Louisville, Kentucky and her three passengers were transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center.
One of the passengers inside the Mazda, Sierra Watson, 19, of Louisville, Kentucky died. Watson was the only one in the vehicle not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 24-year-old man from Abingdon, suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene, according to Geller.
The driver of the Silverado was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and charges are pending.
