Battle at Bristol

Over 150,000 fans watch Tennessee and Virginia Tech play Saturday night in the Battle at Bristol at Bristol Motor Speedway.

BRISTOL, Tenn.—It's official. The Battle at Bristol is now the most attended college football game in American history.

A representative from the Guinness Book of World Records visited Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday evening to confirm the total. According to officials, 156,990 people were in attendance for the match between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

The previous record was held at Michigan Stadium. In 2013, the stadium hosted 115,109 people during a University of Michigan and Notre Dame game.
