ABINGDON, Va. –– At first, Washington County Sheriff’s Detective Jamie Blevins figured only one store had been targeted with counterfeit checks. The complaint included 50 checks in all, each cashed for less than $500 at the Walmart on Lee Highway in Bristol.

Something about the timing seemed a little odd, though.
