Report: Motorcycle rider killed in Kingsport crash

Updated

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon after crashing into a car at an intersection, police said.

The wreck happened just after 12 p.m. at Fort Henry Drive and Atoka Lane when a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Kimberly S. Wieger traveling northbound turned into the path of a 1988 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Samuel A. Ireson, Jr. traveling southbound, a report from the Kingsport Police Department said.

Both vehicle were traveling under green light conditions when the crash occurred. The cycle struck the passenger door on the left side of the car, sending the rider and cycle airborne and igniting a fire on the car, the department reported.

Ireson, 23, of Kingsport, Tenn. was pronounced dead at the scene. Wieger, 53, of Blountville, Tenn. was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending, the report said.
