A 100-plus acre wildfire burned late into the night in Smyth County.

Some summer homes were threatened by the blaze early on, Saltville Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Jimmy Taylor said at 9 p.m. Thursday. But by evening, the fire had moved beyond the homes in an area off of Royal Lane in Saltville. No people were in harm’s way.
