Tornado warnings, watches across Southwest Va. and Northeast Tenn.

The National Weather Service has extended a tornado watch that includes Sullivan County in East Tennessee and Russell and Washington counties in Virginia. 

This includes the cities of Abingdon, Bristol, Kingsport and Lebanon. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. this evening.

A tornado warning is also in effect until 5:45 this evening for counties in Southwest Virginia. A warning is issued when a tornado has been spotted.

If you are in the area of a tornado warning, take cover. 

Two storm shelters are also open in Hawkins County this evening.

The first shelter is at Mooresburg Elementary School on Hwy. 3, and the second one is locate at the Hawkins County Rescue Squad building located on East McKinney Ave. in Rogersville.

Incase weather conditions become severe, people in Greene County have a safe place to stay.

Greene County Emergency Management opened  a storm shelter at the Andrew Johnson Complex on South Main St. in Greeneville.
