KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A Kingsport woman faces felony charges of false reporting and charges of tampering with evidence after police said she made up a story about being raped.
Amanda Rowland, 36, of Poplar Grove Road, reported a rape at her home on Wednesday, according to a report from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.
Officers arriving on scene found broken glass and a torn shower curtain, and were told by Rowland that someone had come into her home while she was in the shower and raped her. She also told them her ex-boyfriend had gotten text messages warning that she was going to be raped.
Upon investigation, officers learned that the ex-boyfriend had been getting text messages like that from several different phone numbers. Detectives traced the texts back to Rowland.
Rowland later admitted to police that the allegations were false, and that she staged the scene at her home, the report said.
Rowland was arrested and is held at the Sullivan County jail.
