KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Additional charges have been filed against Greg Slemp, who remains in jail following his weekend arrest on an attempted second degree murder charge.
Slemp, 43, of Kingsport, has been charged with attempted second degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping, according to a police report. These charges are on top of the attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault charges filed after a weekend shooting incident.
The report states Slemp's ex-wife was taken to the hospital Thursday, claiming she had been staying at Slemp's home and had accidentally fallen off a ledge. Medical staff told officers her injuries were not consistent with her story.
During this weekend's shooting investigation, officers found evidence that suggested Slemp had assaulted his ex-wife, the report said.
Detectives went back to the hospital to talk with the woman, who agreed to speak with them after learning Slemp was in jail, police said.
She told detectives Slemp hit her in the head with a toilet seat, and also hit her with a ski pole, the report said. She said when the assault was over, she was thrown into an unfinished area near the basement of the house - the area is about 15 feet deep and has no stairs. The victim was stuck there until her friends found her, she told police.
Slemp remains at the Sullivan County Jail.
