JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- An early Fourth of July shooting left one person dead in Johnson City.

The Johnson City Police Department reported that the shooting occurred at 1:04 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of E. Myrtle Ave. When officers arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.

Police said Michael Alexis Lee Rowe, 30, Johnson City, died from his injuries. Moses Alfonso Ballard Jr., 29, Johnson City, is expected to recover from his injuries, police said.

Officers said it appears a verbal altercation escalated into the exchange of gun fire. Officers said they found the weapons a short distance away from the scene.

When released from the hospital, police said Ballard will be charged with second-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Another individual, Tonya Sue Hartley, 24, was charged with aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
